IFSA – International Forestry Students’ Association

IFSA is the largest network of forestry and forest-related sciences students in the world: a non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-religious organization entirely run by students for students. Since 1973, it has connected thousands of students from over 48 countries, encouraging them to engage in regional and international meetings and explore ecological, cultural and operational differences in forest management. Through their involvement with IFSA, students gain a broader educational experience and perspective on forestry at a local and international scale. IFSA also acts as a platform for students to participate in international decision making processes and international congresses, thanks to its partnership with major international forestry organizations.

IFSA partner organizations:

  • Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)

  • Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR)

  • European Forestry Institute (EFI)

  • International Union of Forestry Research Organizations (IUFRO)

  • Commonwealth Forestry Association (CFA)

  • International Partnership for Forestry Education (IPFE)

  • International Forum for International Students’ Organisations (IFISO)

IFSS 2016 – International Forestry Students’ Symposium

IFSS is IFSA’s largest annual general meeting, welcoming over 120 representatives from IFSA Local Committees from around the world. During this two-week long symposium, attendees will learn about the ecological, economic and social values unique to forests of Austria. The Symposium also provides a fantastic networking opportunity for students to create meaningful connections with other students, as well as with local industry and academic institutions. By promoting intercultural understanding, IFSS creates a dialogue around the sustainable future for the world’s forests. Past IFSS have taken place in different places as Turkey, Spain and Canada. IFSS 2015 will be hosted by the Phillipines.
