Networking Night

At the end of the first day of IFSS 2016 everybody got together in the assembly hall of BOKU – University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences for Networking Night. After a short introduction by Prof. Karl Stampfer (BOKU), the participants could visit 10 different info tables. Additionally, some participants could present their own research projects on posters.

The participants were able to learn everything they were interested in by talking to representatives of International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), European Forest Institute (EFI), Austrian Research Centre for Forests (BFW), Austrian Natural Resources Management and International Cooperation Agency (ANRICA), Styrian Forestry Board (Landesforstdirektion), Mediterranean Forestry and Natural Resources Management (MEDfOR), Municipal Department No 49 of the City of Vienna (MA 49), Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (BMLFUW) and proPellets Austria.

What a great way to end the first day of IFSS 2016, thank you all for coming!

Opening Ceremony

On August 8th, 2016, the opening ceremony of IFSS 2016 took place at BOKU – University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. In the morning the participants walked from the dormitory to the university. There they were welcomed by Lisa Lehner, head of organizing committee (OC), who also moderated the opening ceremony.

The participants got to listen to many interesting speeches by Rector Martin Gerzabek (BOKU), Director General Gerhard Mannsberger (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management), President May Anne Then (IFSA), Executive Director Alexander Buck (IUFRO), Director Marc Palahi (EFI) and IFSS Chair Lisa Lehner (IFSA).

These speeches were followed by three presentations. Herbert Weidinger who represented the Municipal Department No49 Forest office and urban agriculture of the city of Vienna, talked about Vienna woods and water supply. Professor Karl Stampfer (BOKU) tried to convince everybody to study forestry at BOKU and Professor Georg Gratzer held a captivating presentation about the master program Mountain forestry at BOKU.

At the end of the ceremony, Lisa Lehner asked all members of the OC to join her on the stage to show the audience how many people were involved in organizing the IFSS 2016. Their effort was honoured by all participants and speakers with thunderous applause.
